Returning To Education

Hello! My name is Jen Grant, this blog is all about my journey back into education as a mature student.

The story begins with a dinner date with my husband last summer. At that point our eldest son had just left home and our youngest son‘s life was full of school, friends and rugby. Our own business, which I had worked in for most of my life was thriving and needed less input from me – as such I was feeling slightly redundant on all fronts.

As the evening progressed the conversation turned to future plans and my husband suggested I should go to University – fill my new found free time with a fresh challenge. To be honest the thought initially horrified me! How could I return to ‘school’, having left education over 20 years ago. We chatted about it a little that night, my husband encouraging me and giving me the confidence that I should consider my options. The next day that I realised the seed had been planted and I was brave enough to google search what courses were available in our area.

I am incredibly lucky that Aberdeen, where we live has two incredible Universities so the search started with their websites. The nearest University to our home is Robert Gordon University (RGU) and as a mature student my studies obviously had to fit in with my home life so my search started and actually ended here.

And then I found this video on You Tube about the Digital Marketing BA Hons Undergraduate Degree course and I was ‘sold’.

All I needed to do now was apply and most importantly get accepted and then the real challenges would begin….

I hope you enjoy my journey and whether you’re thinking of taking the leap back into education or are already a mature student that you find this blog helpful and informative.
